From as early as the age of eight, Bill Taekema knew that he wanted to help others to help themselves. Throughout his life, people would tell him about their own stories and challenges, and were comforted by his innate ability to listen and support. As an adult, each of his vocations involved helping others; however he knew that in order to take this ability to the deepest level possible, he would need to start his own psychotherapy practice. One day on the Oprah Show, Dr. Phil shared that he had his training in Gestalt Therapy. Dr. Phil’s way of supporting his clients in becoming honest with themselves, was very inspiring. It was then that Bill knew he had found his professional direction. After contacting the Gestalt Institute of Toronto, he began his 4 years of training becoming a certified Gestalt Therapist.

While Bill supports individuals from all walks of life, he has three areas that he specializes in:

(1) Specialized support to individuals who are dealing with issues surrounding the many layers of the “ego” as written in the book A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle 2006.

(2) In Canada, it is clear that the “Baby Boomers” have reached their retirement age. Fact is, they are living longer than previous generations living with multiple health and mobility issues. As a result, Seniors are faced with making many adjustments and changes in order to manage their new lifestyle. Finding a reason to get up in the morning in order to feel useful is another quest of retirement. More often then not, there are unresolved relationship issues and tensions at home that become magnified as retirement progresses.

(3) More than 12 years experience as a Rehab Assistant working one on one with individuals who suffered an acquired brain injury (ABI), supporting their family and community support systems in redefining their lives. This process leads the individual to gaining back the best possible level of independence.

Change is a process and all clients are fully supported while they take their own personal journeys. Each individual's "authentic self "is highly respected through this process right through to where they find their new way of relating to their "self" and their environment.
